(UPDATE) One killed, 2 injured in Basilan drug raid

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Authorities raided this morning an alleged drug den, resulting to the death of a suspected drug pusher and wounding of two policemen in Basilan, local police said.

Elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency raided a house of the suspected drug pusher at La Piedad village in Isabela City, Basilan at around 6:25 a.m. local time, said Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesperson for the Western Mindanao Police Command based in Zamboanga City.

In the brief exchange of fires between the law enforcers and suspected drug dealers, a suspect identified as Abi Jaji was killed and two cops were wounded, while three other suspects were arrested, Huesca said.

Huesca said that raiding team also seized sachets of illegal drugs and paraphernalia and three short and long firearms from the suspects.

The shooting incident took place a day after a similar raid on the drug den in the troublesome Mindanao. Seven suspected pushers were killed during the raid in Southern Philippine city of Davao yesterday morning.
