Denmark to re-open embassy in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - Denmark will re-open its embassy in Manila on August this year, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced Friday.

The DFA said that the plan to re-open the Danish Embassy in Manila was relayed by Ambassador Nicolai Ruge, Denmark's non-resident Ambassador to the Philippines based in Malaysia, to Assistant Secretary for European Affairs Maria Zeneida Angara Collinson.

The DFA said that the Danish embassy's re-opening in Manila "provides recognition of the vast potential for bilateral cooperation in many fields between the Philippines and Denmark."

Denmark also plans to open three embassies in other countries as part of the larger restructuring program of the Danish Foreign Service.

The DFA said that Denmark and the Philippines have very cordial bilateral relations and enjoy strong relations in the maritime sector.

It said more than 5,000 Filipino seafarers work on board Danish- managed, -operated or -owned vessels and more than 10,500 Filipinos are based in Denmark with most of them working as au pairs or in the service industry.
