MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino and his sisters yesterday visited the tomb of their parents at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City ahead of the observance of All Souls’ Day.
A mass for the Aquino family and their relatives was officiated by Fr. Daniel Tansip of the Presidential Security Group and Fr. Larry Tolentino of the Diocese of Parramatta in Sydney, Australia.
All members of the family – Ballsy, Pinky, Noy, Viel, and Kris – were present. Kris arrived late with sons Joshua and Bimby.
Tolentino reminded the siblings of the examples set by their parents, Ninoy and Cory. He said the public, particularly the youth, should be reminded how to live to the fullest in order to deserve the kingdom of God.
He said Filipinos should emulate Ninoy for sacrificing his life for the country, and Cory for bringing hope and awakening the spirit of the people.
After the mass, the President stayed for a few minutes to talk to his sisters and play with his nephews.
Unlike last year, no member of the Cabinet joined the Aquinos in the private mass for their parents.
The mausoleum of the late democracy icons was decked with yellow flowers such as stargazer, Malaysian mums, carnations, chrysanthemums and orchids.
Public viewing was suspended to allow the Aquino family to have a private moment.
