Fish kills Zambo fisherman

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A man was killed when a needlefish (balo) flipped and pierced his throat shortly after midnight yesterday in this city.

Jesus Guerrero, 63, of Barangay Talabaan, died minutes after he pulled the fish from his neck.

Senior Superintendent Jose Chiquito Malayo, acting city police director, said Guerrero, along with his son and brother, were on a pump boat fishing in the waters off Sitio Gapuh.

The men were checking their hooks when a needlefish leapt out and hit the victim.

Guerrero died as his son and brother were trying to give him first aid.
