Aquino keynotes Heroes’ Day rites

FALLEN HEROES: A caretaker in Manila’s North Cemetery lights candles on the tombstones of Filipino soldiers yesterday, the eve of National Heroes’ Day.

MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino is the guest of honor in today’s commemoration of National Heroes’ Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.

Aquino will deliver a speech and be given full military honors including a 21-gun salute and lead a wreath-laying ceremony.

The President will be joined by National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) chairperson Dr. Maria Serena Diokno, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Gen. Emmanuel Bautista, Taguig Mayor Laarni Cayetano and her brother-in-law Rep. Lino Cayetano.

This year’s theme is “Bayaning Pilipino sa Bawat Sandali: Hamon ng Bayan sa Bagong Salinlahi,” according to the NHCP that will spearhead the event.

National Heroes’ Day is bring commemorated to remember the patriotism of heroes, whose selflessness makes them worthy of esteem, reverence and gratitude.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine historical heritage through research, information dissemination, conversation, and maintenance and administration of national shrines and landmarks.
