Biazon to head BOC intel group

MANILA, Philippines - Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Rufino Biazon will assume the post of chief of the Intelligence Group (IG) in a concurrent capacity starting Tuesday.

“I am going to take a personal hand in running the affairs in the IG,” he said.

He said he would reorganize the IG after calling a command conference of the IG, also on Tuesday.

No OIC was appointed since former deputy commissioner Danilo Lim vacated the post on Aug. 12.

Biazon said the Department of Finance (DOF) has yet to respond to his request last Aug. 14 to designate him as officer-in-charge of the IG. “It would be better if there is an official designation. Right now I am giving direct orders as commissioner,” he said.

He said he just instructed BOC Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service director Fernandino Tuason to sign routine documents.

Lim submitted his letter of resignation to President Aquino on July 23. The President accepted his resignation on Aug. 8 with a promise that he would be given a new position in government.

Meanwhile, Biazon said he would also follow up with the DOF his proposed reassignments of some of the 17 district collectors.
