MANILA, Philippines - Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz yesterday said it’s up to President Aquino to make the decision whether she should stay in the Cabinet amid calls for her resignation.
“As a member of the Cabinet, I serve at the pleasure of the President and I will submit to the President’s decision,†Baldoz said.
Baldoz made the statement in reaction to former senator Ernesto Herrera’s call for her ouster for allegedly abusing her power as labor chief.
Herrera had earlier filed a complaint against Baldoz with the Office of the Ombudsman after she allegedly committed abuses in resolving the dispute among members of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP).
He said they could not expect any fair judgment from Baldoz on who is the legitimate president of TUCP.
Herrera claimed that Department of Labor and Employment’s decision favoring former TUCP president Democrito Mendoza was meant to influence the ruling of the Commission on Elections in declaring who will become the party’s nominee in Congress.
Baldoz said she would answer the charges filed against her and several other DOLE officials.
The labor chief expressed confidence that the truth will prevail during the hearing of the complaint.
