MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino will lead the celebration of the 115th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence on June 12 at the Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila and pay tribute to national hero Andres Bonifacio, whose 150th birth anniversary will be commemorated this year.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the celebration, to start at 8 a.m., will also be held in nine other venues.
A schedule posted on the website of the National Historical Commission showed other venues in Rizal Park, Manila; Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite; Barasoain Church in Malolos City, Bulacan; Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine in San Juan City; Mausoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolucion, Manila North Cemetery; Bonifacio National Monument, Caloocan City; Pamintuan House in Angeles City, Pampanga, and historical sites in Cebu City and Davao City.
Other activities lined up are the blowing of horns by Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Navy vessels, silent and slow drills and sky diving by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Coast Guard personnel, exhibition of taekwondo and wushu national teams, job fair, and medical and dental services.
The traditional Vin d’ honneur, a cocktail reception for members of the diplomatic community, will also be held in Malacañang.
