Jolie plans to remove ovaries

MANILA, Philippines - Actress Angelina Jolie is planning to undergo surgery to remove her ovaries after undergoing a double mastectomy in February and reconstructive surgery in April, according to an article posted in People Magazine online.

Although a source told People Magazine that she is doing well after her double mastectomy, Jolie still plans to undergo surgery to remove her ovaries because of her “faulty” BRCA 1 gene.

According to People Magazine, the 37-year-old mother of six still faces a high risk of developing ovarian cancer – which her doctors estimate at 50 percent – due to her “faulty” gene. Although the surgery may trigger early menopause, some doctors advise their patients to undergo the surgery by age 40 or when a woman is done having children.

As of now, life has been “normal” for Jolie and Brad Pitt’s kids, keeping up family traditions such as a Valentine’s Day gift exchange and an Easter egg hunt while Jolie was undergoing treatment, the article said.

A family insider also tells People that “her kids always come first to her.”
