Chiz to voters: Examine track record of bets

MANILA, Philippines - Re-electionist Senator Francis Escudero yesterday asked voters to look into the track record of senatorial candidates, especially those seeking re-election.

Escudero said of the Senate’s 39 permanent committees, those that he chaired were among the top performers, registering zero backlog with all referred measures heard and acted upon.

Citing official records, he said that the committees on justice and human rights and environment and natural resources heard and acted on all bills referred to them, compared to the 3,830 bills and resolutions that remain pending in other Senate committees as of April 4.

Escudero said the record speaks for itself, as a testament to how he and his staff have worked in the public interest for the whole of the 15th Congress.

“The Filipino people put their trust in us for a reason. Failure is not an option in public service … We just did our jobs and let the numbers do the talking for us,” Escudero said, adding his committee created nearly 300 courts.

“This is the first time that the Senate has approved this many new courts, hopefully, ensuring that justice is no longer delayed or denied for our people,” he noted.

“Anyone who campaigns hard to be elected should work just as hard, if not harder, when entrusted with the mandate of the electorate,” he added.
