MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Panfilo Lacson became P6 million richer last year, according to his State of Assets, Liabilities and Networh (SALN).
The big jump in Lacson's net worth was due to the payment he received from a movie outfit in 2012 for his film-bio, which is about his life while in hiding for almost a year in 2010.
In his SALN for 2012, the senator declared a net worth of P28,856,647.36, which was higher compared to his P22.6-million net worth in 2011.
Lacson said that he received a P7-million payment for the film rights.
The senator, who is on his last term in the Senate, went in hiding in 2010 after the court ordered his arrest for his supposed involvement in the double murders of publicist Bubby Dacer and driver Emmanuel Corbito in 2000.
Lacson resurfaced on Feb. 3, 2011 after the Court of Appeals nullified the warrant of arrest.
In his SALN, Lacson listed P41,458,617.76 in assets and liabilities totaling to P12,601,970 which included a P10-million worth of debts, and P2.6-million income taxes paid for the film rights.
Lacson declared his cash on bank amounting to P24,723,162.46, jewelry estimated at P 3.8-million, antique furniture, P 1.4-million, stocks investment at P9,125,455, a motor vehicle pegged at P150,000, and assorted firearms at P1.1-million.
The senator also declared a residential lot in Silang, Cavite with a current fair value of P800,000; business interests in Golden Beret, a security agency in Sucat, Paranaque, and Megastar Real Estate Corporation in Ortigas, Pasig City.
