Comelec: UNA ranks 4th as political entity

MANILA, Philippines - A Commission on Elections (Comelec) resolution shows the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) ranks fourth after the Liberal Party (LP), Nacionalista Party (NP) and the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) as a political entity.

UNA has been named dominant minority party in the May 13 elections after petitioning for the status.

The pro-administration LP is the dominant majority party with 70.97 points followed by NP with 26.74 points and NPC with 25.31 points.  UNA got only 17 points.

In fifth place was Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats with 15.61; and Nationalista Unity Party with 10.35 points.

The Comelec said the ranking was based on the parties’ performance in past elections, number of incumbent elected members, identified chapters and number of candidates for the coming polls.

LP and UNA had filed for accreditation as the dominant majority party.

Lakas-CMD sought to become the dominant minority party but lost to UNA.

The Comelec has named NP, NPC and NUP as major national parties. Ten slots were available for this category but only these parties have applied for them.

Under Republic Act 9369, the Poll Automation Law, the fifth and sixth copy of the election returns (ER) and the seventh and eighth copies of the Certificates of Canvass (COC) will be given to the dominant majority and minority party.

They also stand to get copies of the electronically transmitted precinct results.
