LEGAZPI CITY , Philippines – Sen. Loren Legarda warned syndicates who prey on women and children that they now face arrest after President Aquino signed into law last Thursday the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.
“This will stop the selling of women and children who are made sex slaves and prostitutes by syndicates,†said Legarda, who was a guest at the 7th annual “Lakad Tanim Para sa Puso†last Feb. 14 in Legazpi City.
Legarda, who authored the anti-human trafficking bill, said she is also coordinating with international organizations like the Inter-Agency Task Force Against Trafficking (IATFAT), the International Justice Mission that has branches in Pampanga and Cebu as well as with the Visayan Forum to solve the problem.
