TV-5 launches election coverage

MANILA, Philippines - Kapatid network TV-5 yesterday launched a multi-sectoral coverage of the coming elections to help provide the public with the quickest poll results and updates.

Dubbed “Pagbabago 2013” the coverage plan launched at the Resorts World in Pasay City brought together key private, public and non-government groups that included the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel), the Legal Network for Truthful Elections (Lente), the University of the Philippines-National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG), Radio Mindanao Network, (RMN), and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV).

“News 5 has brought together a formidable coalition of independent organizations to help ensure that this year’s elections are peaceful, honest and fair,” said TV-5 chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan.

He said more than providing voters with information, Pagbabago 2013 urges all Filipino voters to actively participate in the electoral process and to remain vigilant in safeguarding their votes.

“At the end of the day, what we hope to attain is a conscientious electorate that are able to take their candidates to account for their promises of good governance even long after election day,” he added.

Pangilinan said TV-5’s election coverage would make full use of its Internet presence, as well as all available media platforms such as print, radio, television and mobile.

To provide Filipinos across the world with real-time election reports, the network will also make use of the facilities of PLDT, Smart Communications, Sun Cellular and ePLDT.

The network also announced the launching of the “Anong Aksyon Mo?” advocacy campaign that allows Filipino voters to hold their local officials accountable even after election day.

“We try to link people to local government. People are often uninformed of what their local government is doing,” said TV-5 news head Luchi Cruz-Valdez.

“The importance of choosing local government officials well is our media advocacy,” she added.
