CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Apart from charges of seven counts of multiple murder and eleven counts of frustrated murder, John Paul Lopez is facing charges of direct assault, illegal possession of firearms and attempted murder.
Senior Superintendent Bernabe Balba, regional director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said the testimonies from eyewitnesses and the victims who survived the shooting would be used as evidence against Lopez.
Several witness saw Lopez helping slain mass killer Rolando Bae in carrying out the shooting rampage in Kawit, Cavite that ended with seven people killed and several others wounded last week.
Bae was later killed in a shootout with policemen who tried to arrest him.
Lopez, upon seeing the approaching lawmen, fled from the scene.
Police investigators said they established the .45 caliber pistol used by Bae was unlicensed.
Police said prosecutors are now expediting the resolution of cases against Lopez, who underwent inquest proceedings before the Imus City Prosecutor Office and is under the custody of the CIDG in Imus.
