VIGAN CITY, Philippines – In a surprise move, Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson has opted not to seek reelection and instead fielded his youngest son, First District Rep. Luis Ryan Singson, as candidate for governor.
Ryan filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) yesterday afternoon at the Comelec provincial office together with re-electionist Vice Gov. Deogracias Victor Savellano, whose daughter Patricia is his wife.
Before the 5 p.m. deadline, former representative Ronald Singson, Ryan’s brother, also filed his COC in a bid to regain his old seat as first district congressman.
He told The STAR he would refile his hybrid vehicle bill seeking to grant tax incentives to manufacturers and buyers of hybrid vehicles once elected.
The brothers filed their candidacies under the Nacionalista party-Bileg ticket.
Chavit and his cousin, former House Speaker Eric Singson, who had earlier filed his reelection bid as second district representative, accompanied the brothers and Savellano in filing their COCs.
Ronald said his father would serve as their adviser.
