MANILA, Philippines - Former President Joseph Estrada wished that then Chief Justice Hilario Davide had ordered the Senate doors locked when prosecutors walked out of his impeachment trial in 2001, just like what Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile did when Chief Justice Renato Corona walked out in yesterday’s impeachment proceedings.
“Davide should have done the same, should have done what Senate President Enrile did, when the prosecutors in my impeachment case walked out from the impeachment court,” Estrada told The STAR.
“I would have been able to testify before the impeachment court and defend myself.”
Enrile ordered the lockdown of all Senate entry points when Corona suddenly left the Senate session hall, to the surprise of the senator-judges, after delivering his three-hour opening statement.
