Pagasa sees rainy Palm Sunday

MANILA, Philippines - Churchgoers in Metro Manila should not only bring their palm fronds for blessing but also their umbrellas when they attend Palm Sunday mass today.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administartion (PAGASA) weather forecaster Glaiza Escollar said yesterday that the weather today would be fair in the morning with rains in the afternoon.

“We would have better weather today (Sunday) compared to yesterday. In the morning, Metro Manila would be partly cloudy with fair weather. However, in the afternoon and evening, there would still be rain showers, but less volume of rain compared to last Saturday,” Escollar said.

Escollar added that the rains would also be confined to smaller areas.

In its 5 p.m. forecast, PAGASA said that the easterlies would be prevailing over the eastern section of Luzon and the Visayas.

Northern and Central Luzon and the eastern section of Southern Luzon would experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The widespread rains over the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon might trigger flashfloods and landslides.

The rest of the country would be partly cloudy to cloudy, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Moderate and strong winds blowing from the east would prevail over the eastern section of the country and the coastal waters along these areas would be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, the winds would be light to moderate, blowing from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas.
