MANILA, Philippines - A low-pressure area spotted off Palawan the other day is expected to move out of the Philippine area of responsibility today.
With this development, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the weather would gradually improve today and in the next few days.
PAGASA said as of 5 p.m. yesterday, the low-pressure area was at 430 kilometers west northwest of Puerto Princesa.
Weather forecaster Nikos Peñaranda said by today, the low-pressure area would already be out of the Philippine area of responsibility.
However, even if it is moving away and there is no other weather disturbance sighted, the northeast monsoon would still affect Northern Luzon, bringing rainshowers.
PAGASA said Luzon and Visayas would experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, with widespread rains over the northern and eastern sections of Northern Luzon that might trigger flashfloods and landslides.
Mindanao would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast and east would prevail over Luzon and coastal waters would be moderate to rough.
Light to moderate winds from the southeast and south would prevail over the Visayas, while winds from the south to southwest would be over Mindanao.
Bring umbrellas
Peñaranda also advised those who would attend the installation of the 32nd archbishop of Manila Luis Antonio Tagle tomorrow to bring umbrellas.
“Generally, there would be an improved weather in Metro Manila but there would be isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms in the afternoon,” said Peñaranda.
The 54-year-old Tagle will succeed Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales.
Organizers of the event said wide screens would be put up outside the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila so the public could watch the ceremony.
At 7 a.m., two hours before the Mass, lay people from Cavite, joined by priests, will hold a Caracol Festival. They will fetch Tagle at the Archdiocese of Manila at San Agustin Church before proceeding to the Manila Cathedral.
Outside the Cathedral are five city mayors of Makati, San Juan, Pasay, Manila, and Mandaluyong who will give symbolic keys to their cities to Archbishop Tagle.
