Malacañang sees no need to revamp legal team

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang said yesterday it does not see any need to revamp President Aquino’s legal team despite the setbacks experienced by the administration, including the Supreme Court’s decision to postpone elections in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and allow the Chief Executive to appoint officers-in-charge.

Critics said members of the legal team should have better coordination to make sure they would win their cases before the SC.

“It’s not true that the President’s legal team is not coordinating with each other,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said over radio dzRB.

She said even Solicitor General Jose Anselmo Cadiz could attest to this.

She said the legal team would answer the SC decision on the ARMM issue after a meeting with the Office of the Solicitor General, Office of the Executive Secretary, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and Department of Justice.

“On our part, there is no basis (for a revamp) and of course, everybody serves at the pleasure of the President. Only the President can say if he’s not satisfied with our work,” Valte said.
