Hubert welcomes Vizconde appeal

MANILA, Philippines - Acquitted Vizconde massacre suspect Hubert Webb yesterday welcomed the petition filed by Lauro Vizconde asking the Supreme Court to reverse its ruling clearing him and five others of charges.

“That’s the only way our names will be cleared,” Webb told The STAR in an interview at the lobby of Cleveland Tower condominium in Parañaque City.

He also said he would be willing to undergo a lie detector test with prosecution star witness Jessica Alfaro.

“I wish there was a way to penalize these people for lying and for using media to gain personal ground,” said Webb.

Vizconde on Wednesday appealed before the Supreme Court t(SC) o set aside its Dec. 14 ruling and grant his camp a chance to have an oral argument on Jan. 15.

The Vizconde patriarch said the treatment of evidence by the SC resulted in a miscarriage of justice and granting his petition would enable the Court to “correct its errors.”

The 1991 massacre caught public attention because of the prominence of the accused and the gruesomeness of the rape and murder of 18-year-old Carmela Vizconde, and the murder of the mother Estrellita and the nine-year-old Jennifer.

Webb is the son of former Senator Freddie Webb. Antonio Lejano II is the son of singer and actress Pinky de Leon; Hospicio Fernandez of a retired commodore; Michael Gatchalian and Miguel Rodriguez of prominent lawyers; and Peter Estrada of a wealthy businessman.
