MANILA, Philippines - Over 20,000 jobseekers turned up at the two-day job fair held by The Philippine Star Career Guide and ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs from Tuesday until yesterday.
Some 20,000 jobs abroad and 10,000 in the country were available in the job fair held at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall-B, Abellana Sports Complex in Metro Cebu, and NCCC Mall in Metro Davao.
Bimbo Andrade, head of the Philippine Star Career Guide, said the job fair was successful in providing a venue for multinational and local companies to meet with applicants.
"There were call center jobs for Technical Support and thousands of high-paying welding jobs in Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries available," Andrade said.
He said positions that were unfilled in the fair would be featured in the Philippine Star's Career Guide Section which comes out every Sunday.
It was the second job fair organized by the Philippine Star and ABS-CBN.
"ABS-CBN News believes that we can serve the public better by empowering them. The job fair is one way of helping our kapamilya viewers," said Cheryl Favila, head of News Production of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs. "More than doleouts, the job fair is a concrete way of uplifting the lives of our fellow Filipinos.”
