DPWH completes 2,179 new school buildings

MANILA, Philippines - When school opens this June, there would be 2,179 new public school buildings for elementary and high school students, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said yesterday.

In a statement, DPWH Secretary Victor Domingo said that they have completed 95.7 percent or 2,179 school buildings of the assigned construction work given to them by the Department of Education (DepEd).

“The remaining 63 projects are on-going and we have already instructed the regional and district engineers to assure that these school building projects will be completed before the formal opening of classes this June,” Domingo said.

Most of the new buildings are in Western Visayas (Region 6) with 215 buildings, followed by Eastern Visayas (Region 8) with 208 projects and Southern Tagalog (Region 4-A) with 173 buildings.
