MANILA, Philippines - Civil Service Commission (CSC) chair Francisco Duque III yesterday advised those who will take the Civil Service Examinations (CSE) next month to prepare and do their homework if they want to pass the tests.
“We need to get the most qualified to enter government because these are the people implementing vital programs and services for the public,” he said.
Reacting to a report that nine out of 10 CSE takers flunked the examinations administered in November 2009, Duque stressed “just like any other exam, you have to prepare well in order to pass.”
Of the 62,389 individuals who took the last professional and sub-professional tests, only 6,334 or 10.15 percent passed and will be conferred with civil service eligibility, a basic requirement for those wanting to work in government.
On April 25 and Oct. 17, thousands will again take the examinations in various testing centers nationwide in the hope of getting a passing grade of 80.
CSC Examination, Recruitment and Placement Office chief Director III Lorelei Cabatu said the test for the professional level covers vocabulary, grammar and correct usage, paragraph organization, reading comprehension, analogy, logic, and numerical reasoning, while the sub-professional test covers the same topics, except analogy and logic which is replaced by clerical operations and numerical reasoning.
The deadline for the filing of applications in CSC regional and field offices nationwide for the April 25 tests is on March 10. — Michael Punongbayan
