South Korean foreign minister in RP next week

MANILA, Philippines – South Korea’s foreign minister will pay an official visit to the Philippines next week to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced yesterday.

Foreign Minister Yu Myung Hwan will arrive on July 18. He will be joined by his wife during the visit to Manila.

Yu will attend a wreath laying ceremony at the Rizal Monument in Rizal Park, Manila, to be followed by a meeting with Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo at the Sofitel Hotel.

He is also expected to meet other key government officials.

More teachers eyed

South Korea is considering extending the scope of its law to allow the entry of Filipino English teachers because of increasing demand for teachers.

The Philippines and South Korea began talks for the entry of Filipino English teachers to South Korea.

The South Korean government said their public schools are currently in need of more English teachers.

The DFA said Philippine Ambassador to South Korea Luis Cruz has discussed with Commissioner Choo Kyu-ho of the Korea Immigration Office the possibility of Filipino teachers gaining entry into South Korea as English teachers. – Pia LeeBrago
