Red Cross to recruit youth volunteers

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) has secured the support of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU), the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and even the Department of Education (DepEd) to recruit youth volunteers in schools.

In a memorandum of agreement signed last week, CHED, PACU, TESDA and DepEd committed to support PNRC in its recruitment of youth volunteers and form Red Cross youth councils in schools all over the country.

Corazon Alma de Leon, PNRC secretary general, said the Red Cross welcomes the partnership with PACU and the government agencies overseeing higher education institutes (HEIs) and training schools because it will facilitate the recruitment of youth volunteers.

De Leon said that the PNRC is aggressively pursuing the improvement of disaster preparedness in the midst of the possible occurrence of calamities such as typhoons.
