Workers should get additional pay for working during the holidays, the Department of Labor and Employment said yesterday.
Labor Secretary Arturo Brion said private sector workers nationwide are entitled to 130 percent additional pay if they report for work during the three holidays declared this week, including yesterday Oct. 29, Nov. 1 and 2.
Employees who work in excess of eight hours shall receive an additional 30 percent.
If the holiday falls on his rest day and the employee renders service, he or she will get 260 percent of his regular pay plus 30 percent for services in excess of eight hours.
Malacañang declared yesterday, Oct. 29, a special non-working holiday nationwide for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
President Arroyo also declared Nov. 2, a Friday, as a special non-working day as it is caught between November 1 or All Saints’ Day, which is a regular non-working holiday, and November 3, a Saturday.
A “No Work, No Pay” policy shall apply unless there is a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day even if the day is unworked, Brion said. — Mayen Jaymalin
