People’s initiative goes online

The people’s initiative being spearheaded by the Sigaw ng Bayan went online in its campaign to propose a shift in the form of government from the present presidential system to a parliamentary system.

Lawyer Mars Tumanda, Sigaw ng Bayan executive director, said their website, www.sigawng bayan.com, is releasing updates on their nationwide campaign every 12 hours.

"Our website is updated every 12 hours for the latest developments on our campaign," Tumanda told reporters during the weekly Kapihan sa News Desk in Quezon City.

He said their website which went fully operational last month is part of their massive information campaign on the need to amend the 1987 Constitution and to counter black propaganda being carried out by Charter change opponents who are bent on stopping the people’s initiative for Cha-cha.

As of yesterday 782,466 people had visited the website.

Tumanda said among the dirty tactics being employed is the submission of signatures of deceased voters to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to make it appear that the dead support the signature campaign.

"But despite the obstacles we are confident that we can attain our objective" he said.

He said their website contains forms that can be downloaded by anyone who wants to sign the people’s initiative.
