BIR official wins APEC Digital Opportunity Award in Taipei

Taipei — A ranking Philippine government official won the APEC Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC) Award here the other day for her work on an advanced electronic tax payment system.

Awarding ceremonies will be held tonight at the Grand Hyatt Taipei.

Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Deputy Commissioner Lilia Guillermo bested more than 50 delegates from six countries from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region.

Guillermo delivered her award-winning presentation here for her work on the BIR’s Electronic Filing and Payment System (eFPS), the Philippine government’s advanced system for tax payments, which is aimed at improving tax collection and eliminating graft and corruption at the least cost to the government.

Vietnam won second place for its work on Tax Administration Information System and Chile was third for its project on Databusiness. Other countries that competed in the ADOC are Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Peru.

The eFPS is an electronic service that aims to provide Filipinos with a paperless tax-filing system through the Internet. The e-service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the website www.bir.gov.ph.
