No Marcelo re-enactment — Palace

Malacañang flatly rejected yesterday a request by businessman Pacifico Marcelo for a re-enactment of his supposed meeting with President Arroyo last Aug. 17 in which she allegedly demanded majority control of his telecommunications firm.

Executive Secretary Alberto Romulo said there is no need for a re-enactment since the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee which investigated Marcelo’s allegations had cleared the President of any wrongdoing.

"As far as I know, the case is closed. The Blue Ribbon has said so," he said.

"People must now accept what the truth is, what the facts are. Now that it has been fully explained in the Blue Ribbon and by Malacañang. So I think there is no point in rehashing things," Romulo added.

The President had categorically denied demanding a 51-percent share of Marcelo’s Philippine Communications Clearinghouse Inc. (PCCI) in exchange for the recall of her veto of its franchise. — Marichu Villanueva, Aurea Calica
