FEU student dies in Laguna hazing

CALAMBA CITY — A medical student of the Far Eastern University (FEU) in Quezon City died while apparently undergoing hazing at a private resort in Barangay Pansol here Saturday night, police said.

Doctors declared 21-year-old Rafael Albano dead on arrival at the J.P. Rizal District Hospital in Calamba.

Inspector Conrado Masongsong, investigation chief of the Calamba police, said Albano had massive blood clots in the thighs and other parts of the body.

Masongsong said Albano was taken to the hospital at about 6 p.m. Saturday by a certain Dr. Victorino Ma-ngila.

Police said it was possible Albano was given first aid when he collapsed during hazing before he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Mangila, who identified himself as a Sigma Mu fraternity member, refused to talk to police investigators for fear he might be implicated in the death of Albano.

Police briefly held Mangila for questioning but later released him for lack of evidence.

Masongsong said police were still trying to pinpoint the crime scene and that two people might have been involved in Albano’s death.

Albano was a resident of 22-B Bakawan and Miller streets in Veterans Village, Quezon City.
