The Muntinlupa gambling lord, who drops the name of President Estrada to protect his illegal operation, was arrested along with nine of his "jueteng" employees during a raid Friday.
Former Muntinlupa City policeman Alex "Boy" Borja, 46, and his employees were receiving bets from bet collectors when raiders pounced on them at 6 p.m.
Borja, of 6 Estanislao St., Lakeview Homes, Barangay Putatan and his employees yielded P1,600 in different denominations and assorted "jueteng" paraphernalia.
Last Friday's raid was the third on Borja's "jueteng" operations this month.
Senior Superintendent Manuel Cabigon, Southern Police District (SPD) director identified those arrested along with Borja as Ricardo Genosa, 40; Marcelino Silva, 27; Ronald Marquez, 30; Menardo Reyes, 41; Arthur Quililan, 22; Romeo Lopez, 42; Carmen Rios, 53; Celia Buena Saires, 49 and Ella Mendero, 45.
Cabigon ordered Superintendent Rolando Navarro, Muntinlupa City police chief, to see to it that Borja's "jueteng" den located at Purok 3, Barangay Bayanan would close shop permanently.
Early this month, Navarro and Superintendent Federico Laciste Jr., SPD intelligence chief, conducted separate raids on Borja's "jueteng" dens and arrested 14 employees and 20 bet collectors. They also recovered cash bets and illegal gambling paraphernalia. All of those arrested were released after posting P3,000 bail.
But reports showed that Borja only transferred the venue of his "jueteng" draw. His bet collectors (cabos) continuously collected bets not only in Muntinlupa City but also in Las Piñas City.
However, STAR sources said Borja, is only a maintainer of the three "jueteng" dens raided by SPD operatives. Borja's financier is a certain Isidro, who also drops the name of President Estrada to protect his illegal business from police raids.
Borja and his nine employees were released after posting P3,000 bail each yesterday.
