The 20 most outstanding congressmen of 1999 selected by the League of Press Associations of the Philippines were officially announced during the league's pre-awarding party held at the Batasan Pambansa Clubhouse in Quezon City last April 12.
The awardees will receive their plaques of recognition during the league's Third Annual Awarding Program for the "Most Outstanding Congressmen" on May 17, 7 p.m., at the Batasan Pambansa Clubhouse.
In the same program, special awards will be given to House Speaker Manuel Villar Jr. (Grand Leadership Award) and Isabela Rep. Heherson Alvarez (Grand Environmentalist Award).
The Most Outstanding Congressmen are: Bernardo Vergara (lone district, Baguio City), Edgar Lara (second district, Cagayan), Faustino Dy Jr. (second district, Isabela), Carlos Padilla (lone district, Nueva Vizcaya), Grace Gacula-Singson (second district, Ilocos Sur),
Josefina Manuel-Joson (first district, Nueva Ecija), Rodolfo Bacani (fourth district, Manila), Feliciano Belmonte Jr. (fourth district, Quezon City), Rolando Briones (lone district, Pasay City), Jose Mari Gonzalez (lone district, San Juan),
Uliran Tee-Joaquin (first district, Laguna), Ma. Amelita Calimbas-Villarosa (lone district, Occidental Mindoro), Francis Escudero (first district, Sorsogon), Raul Gonzalez (lone district, Iloilo City), Harlin Cast Abayon (first district, Northern Samar),
Gerardo Espina (lone district, Biliran), Alfredo Abueg Jr. (second district, Palawan), Eduardo Gullas (first district, Cebu), Benasing Macarambon Jr. (second district, Lanao del Sur) and Juan Miguel Zubiri (third district, Bukidnon).
