A suspected Hong Kong triad member who earlier slipped through an entrapment operation hatched by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) inside a Manila hospital Monday night was later arrested in his house Valenzuela with some P10 million worth of shabu.
Two hours after alleged Hong Kong drug dealer Alex Yu detected that he was walking into an NBI trap inside the Medical Center Manila (MCM) in Ermita, and managed to flee, NBI agents raided the suspect's house in Karuhatan, Valenzuela City where he was found and arrested.
Yu's companion was, however, nowhere to be found. He was identified as Henry Yang.
NBI National Capital Region (NCR) head Samuel Ong said five kilos of shabu estimated to have a street value of P10 million were found inside Yu's Kia sports car, which the drug suspect left behind in his bid to escape.
The NBI agents were able to track down Yu in his Valenzuela residence after documents found inside his car revealed his home address.
Yu, 29, alias Yu Eng Li and an owner of ready-to-wear clothes shop in Sampaloc, did not resist arrest when the NBI agents pounced on him.
In his report to NBI director Federico Opinion Jr., Ong said his men launched the entrapment operation about 2:30 p.m. at the MCM. An undercover agent then met with Yu and Yang at the parking lot of the hospital and completed the deal.
But when the NBI men were about to arrest the two suspects, Yu managed to run away.
The MCM is just a few meters away from the Western Police District headquarters on UN Avenue and the NBI headquarters on Taft Avenue.
Yang is reportedly an owner of a garments shop. Ong said the two suspects are using their businesses as fronts to deal drugs.
Yu was also found to have a press identification card with the heading "Tri-Media Power of the Philippines," which he admitted buying for P1,500. Yu is reportedly an illegal alien. He has been in the country for the last three years.
