CEBU - Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal expressed his gratitude to President Estrada for his promise to immediately create a presidential commission on water resources.
"I told him that if he will continue...saving our watershed, he will endear himself to the people of Cebu because water is very important to us, " Cardinal Vidal told reporters during his 69th birthday celebration at his residence last Sunday.
Vidal personally thanked Mr. Estrada during lunch at the archbishop's residence. Estrada and his entourage were the cardinal's special guests.
The archdiocese, through the Bishops-Businessmen's Conference, has been campaigning against continued abuses to watersheds which are causing the depletion of water resources in the province.
Mr. Estrada, informed of the growing problem of water in Cebu, promised to immediately create a presidential commission on water resources.
He said the commission will temporarily address the problem until Congress passes a bill creating a Metro Cebu Water and Sewerage Authority.
