A high school sophomore committed suicide shortly after she was scolded by her father who caught her in the middle of a tong-its card game in Las Piñas City.
Superintendent Armando Pineda, Las Pinas City police chief of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), identified the victim as Crist Mae Mangoera, 14, a second year high school student, of Metrocor Squatters Area, Barangay Almanza I.
The victim's body was discovered by her father Jaime at about 1 p.m. last Saturday hanging from a nylon cord tied around her neck by the side of their shanty.
Investigation conducted by SPO1 Roland Ramos, showed that the victim resented being scolded by her father in the presence of her tong-its playmates.
It was learned that the victim was earlier asked by her father to tend their sari-sari store, as he was leaving. When he returned, he discoverd that their store was closed and her daugher was nowhere to be found.
He later saw her playing tong-its with neighbors and berated her.
"My intention was for her to stop gambling and instead concentrate on her studies. I wasn't expecting that she would do this," Mang Jaime, told police in Tagalog.
