MANILA, Philippines - Indie rock duo Tegan and Sara gave Filipino fans a taste of their music last Monday at the NBC Tent in Bonifacio Global City.
The twins, known for producing songs that mix pop and indie elements, performed their hits 'Goodbye! Goodbye!,' 'Closer,' 'Walking with a Ghost,' 'Where Does the Good Go' and 'I was a Fool,' among others.
Local band Up Dharma Down fronted for the group and even got a special mention from the twins themselves.
After the concert, the tandem posted an update on their official Instagram account thanking Filipino fans.
Here are six things you need to know about this dynamic pair:
1. Although they look young for their age, the twins have been performing for about 13 years now. Born Sept. 19, 1980 in Canada, Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Keirsten Quin started writing songs when they were 15.
2. After joining a local competition in Canada in 1998, they won studio time which they used in recording their first professional demo, 'Yellow Tape.'
3. Their songs have been used in television shows that include 'Degrassi: The Next Generation,' '90210,' 'Being Erica,' 'Ghost Whisperer,' 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'The Hills,' 'Hollyoaks,' 'jPod,' 'The L Word,' 'Life Unexpected,' 'Melrose Place (2009 series),' 'One Tree Hill,' 'Parenthood,' 'Rookie Blue,' 'Vampire Diaries,' 'Veronica Mars,' 'Waterloo Road (2011),' 'What's New, Scooby-Doo?' and 'Glee.'
4. The twins have performed in various music festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and have toured with artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Neil Young, The Pretenders, The Killers, Jack Johnson, Ben Folds, City and Colour, Death Cab For Cutie, Weezer and Paramore.
5. Their song 'Get Along' was nominated in the 2013 Grammy Awards for Best Long Form Music Video.
6. The twins are openly gay, and are staunch advocates of the LGBT rights movement. They speak about equality and have led fundraisers for youth organizations, music education, literacy, cancer research and LGBT advocacy.
