MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) actors Gio Gahol and Marynor Madamesila performed a scene after the curtain call on the closing performance of "Walay Aray" musical.
So when Gio uttered the lines — "She had me at my worst. You had me at my best!" — to Marynor, members of the audience were clapping in glee, knowing the source of the famous lines.
But nothing prepared them when nine-piece band Ben&Ben suddenly appeared onstage and performed their hits "Kathang Isip" and "Araw-Araw." The band's performance simply broke the house down as spectators rose to their feet and sang along with them.
"This is a dream project for us. Needless to say, we are fans of the John Lloyd Cruz (Popoy) and Bea Alonzo (Basha) movie," said the twin brothers after their performance. After that, members of the "Walang Aray" cast unveiled PETA's upcoming production.
"One More Chance, the Musical" is a translation of Star Cinema's cult classic — from film to stage — that will feature the music of popular band Ben&Ben.
"One More Chance, the Musical" follows PETA's string of successful jukebox musicals: From the phenomenal hit "Rak of Aegis" to the critically-acclaimed rap musical "Three Stars and a Sun," featuring the music of Francis Magalona.
One More Chance, the Musical will start running in April 2024, as it closes PETA's 2023 theater season. Stay tuned!
