Begging the Catholic Church’s pardon since she was just expressing her personal opinion, Kris Aquino said that she was for same-sex marriage when she appeared as special guest on Marian Rivera’s ‘Yan Ang Morning show on GMA last Friday.
“Kasi ako,” Kris told Marian, “I believe in monogamy. I think everybody has the right to love but I also believe that you should stay faithful so puede naman, eh. I think there should be a recognition of civil unions,” citing the case of some of her gay friends. “What if something happens to one of the partners? Di ba in the hospital, the one who must sign the ‘Do not resuscitate’ and other important documents is a blood relation? But if the couple is married, the other partner has a legal right to do it. But of course, we are sagradong Katoliko so I don’t think same-sex marriage is possible.”
Kris’ appearance on Marian’s show was her first after she and her sons Joshua and Bimby came home Sunday last week from a two-month doctor’s-advised vacation in Hawaii and the US Mainland. Why not on ABS-CBN, her home studio with which she is set to renew her contract? Simple: Kris was just fulfilling her promise to Marian who, together with her husband Dingdong Dantes, are close to the Aquino family. The Danteses helped Kris campaign for Vice Pres. Leni Robredo to whose campaign Kris donated P38-M plus.
Away from the maddening crowd, Kris was able to be just herself, making up for lost time by spending truly quality time with her sons, cooking for them, doing the groceries with them, hearing Mass with them…simply just being a full-time mom to them.
“The vacation gave me a chance to stay away from the toxic,” said Kris, “it gave me time to just be me.”
The “family 3” came home in time for Kris to be with her Kuya Noynoy as he left Malacañang Palace for the family residence on Times St. in Quezon City to give way to new President, Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
On her Instagram, Kris assured P-Noy that if ever he got lonely, Kris and her sons can always sleep over at Times St. to cheer him up.
During the show’s “Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down” game portion, Marian asked Kris about Pres. Duterte.
Giving Duterte the “thumbs-up,” Kris said, “I think we live in a democracy. Siya ang pinili ng tao. In the same way na not everybody voted for Noy in 2010 but a lot of people gave him (Duterte) a chance. So I think that we taxpayers and all the citizens should support him. Kung hindi natin siya susuportahan, ang bansa natin ang magsa-suffer at tayo yon.”
…and on the GMA show Yan Ang Morning with host and good friend Marian Rivera.
- On AlDub (Thumbs-Up): I love them! Kasi si Maine (Mendoza), she was always saying that TAPE (producer of Eat, Bulaga!) noticed her from the video dahil sa kaka-spoof niya sa akin. I never met her, but I have met Alden (Richards) when I guested on Eat, Bulaga! to plug My Little Bossings (The Metro Filmfest entry in which Kris plays mom to son Bimby, with co-stars Vic Sotto and Ryzza Mae Dizon. — RFL).
Marian: Okey lang ba sa’yo pag ginagaya ka?
Kris: Depende. Pag maganda, happy ako.
Marian: Pag hindi?
Kris: Pag may hitsura ang nag-i-spoof sa’yo, why not, di ba? Pag kasing ganda mo, okey lang sa akin.
- On her sons feeling sad coming home: They were teary-eyed on our way home. I asked them, “Why are you so sad?” Joshua said something like…because the (presidential) guards would soon be saying goodbye. Siempre naman, it has been six years and they got attached to the guards. Then, Bimby said, “’Coz, Mom, here you are just a mom.” So I assured him, “I’m still gonna be just a mom, relax.”
- On her “mysterious” textmate: I can’t reveal his identity just yet. That’s what I realized during our vacation…to keep some things to myself. In fairness, yung passcode ng phone ko alam nina Josh at Bimby so they see everything. I think sa kanila lang ako may utang; sila lang ang dapat makaalam kung sino yon, kung ano ang nangyayari, kasi sila ang affected.
