GMA wins big in PMPC Star Awards for TV

MANILA, Philippines - GMA Network programs and personalities were recognized at the 2015 Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Television held last Dec. 3 at the Kia Theater in Cubao, Quezon City.

Jessica Soho, widely regarded as the country’s most awarded broadcast journalist, was again recognized as Best Female Newscaster for GMA News TV’s State of the Nation, which, in turn, won as Best News Program.

I-Witness added another accolade to its roster of achievements, winning the Best Documentary Program award. I-Witness documentarists Howie Severino, Kara David, Jay Taruc and Sandra Aguinaldo took home the Best Documentary Program Host award. Vicky Morales, meanwhile, was recognized as Best Public Service Host for Wish Ko Lang.

Winning the Best Morning Show Host award were Unang Hirit hosts Arnold Clavio, Rhea Santos-de Guzman, Ivan Mayrina, Connie Sison, Susan Enriquez, Tani Cruz, Lyn Ching-Pascual, Lhar Santiago, Suzi Abrera, Luane Dy, Love Añover, Tonipet Gaba, Prof. Solita “Mareng Winnie” Monsod, Regine Tolentino and lawyer Gaby Concepcion.

Ilustrado, the first Bayaniserye on primetime TV which was produced by GMA News and Public Affairs, won as Best Drama Mini Series, while the series’ lead star, Kapuso actor and one-half of the AlDub tandem Alden Richards, was named as Best Drama Actor.

GMA News TV’s Biyahe ni Drew and program host Drew Arellano were awarded as Best Travel Show and Best Travel Show Host, respectively.

Another GMA News TV program, Gandang Ricky Reyes, was also recognized as Best Lifestyle Show.

Magpakailanman, hosted by Mel Tiangco, bagged the Best Drama Anthology award. Well-loved family sitcom Pepito Manaloto, Ang Tunay na Kuwento won the Best Comedy Program award.

Winning the Best Educational Program award was Del Monte Kitchenomics. The Kapuso afternoon drama series The Half Sisters bagged the Best Daytime Drama Series award.

Proving her acting prowess as a scheming kontrabida, Sheryl Cruz took home the Best Supporting Actress award for Strawberry Lane. Laughter never stops for Rufa Mae Quinto as she was recognized as Best Comedy Actress for Bubble Gang.

Ricky Lo’s untainted credibility and reputation for being one of the hosts of Startalk has earned him the Best Male Showbiz Oriented Talk Show Host award. The Network’s Sunday afternoon habit, Wowowin won the Best Game Show award. Meanwhile, Wowowin host Willie Revillame was recognized as Best Game Show host.

Receiving this year’s German Moreno’s Power Tandem Award is none other than the phenomenal love team of 2015, Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, collectively known as AlDub.

Organized by The Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC), Inc., the PMPC Star Awards for TV is an annual award giving body that recognizes outstanding TV programs and personalities in the Philippines.
