The Dec. 4 show sold out fast. So, so as not to disappoint fans who really want to watch, it was decided that there would be another night. This means that Sarah Geronimo’s From The Top concert will now be staged at the Araneta Coliseum not only on Dec. 4 but also on Dec. 5. If you really must go on that date, you can perhaps catch a few stray seats in undesirable areas for Friday’s performance, but it would be best to train your sights on the next day. But make it quick as the second show is selling fast and there will certainly not be a third one.
That tickets to Sarah’s From The Top sold out early is no surprise. The country’s Pop Princess is a very good, conscientious performer who works very hard and people really look forward to her shows. If I remember right, her Perfect 10 concert two years ago also played for two nights and made some sort of history by opening at the Araneta and then closing with the second show at the Mall of Asia Arena. She sold out both nights. It was in a way a gift to her fans who will not have to endure the inconvenience of traveling across Metro Manila just to watch her show. I know a lot of you Sarah devotees from the South were hoping for the same arrangement again. But sorry, that is not happening this time.
For those who have closely followed Sarah’s career since she won the Star for a Night contest 12 years ago, From The Top is another chance to find out how far that little girl has come. They can follow Sarah songs and Sarah films and Sarah in the gossip columns but the best barometer of her growth as a performer are her concerts. This is where she shows off her singing and dancing prowess live and to her credit, she has each time done her best to outdo her work in the previous one. She started performing at the Araneta when she was only 16 and has since then made each concert a memorable event. She just keeps getting better and better with every show.
Take a look at the list of Sarah concerts over the years. I am sure you will agree that each one showed her remarkable growth as a performer: There were in 2004 Night of the Champions with Rachelle Ann Go and Mark Bautista; 2005, The Other Side; 2007, Sarah in Motion; February 2008, OL4LUV with Rachelle Ann and Christian Bautista; November 2008, The Next One; June 2009, closing of The Next One Concert Tour; November 2009, Record Breaker; 2011, What Love Is with Martin Nievera; 2012, 24/SG; and 2013, Perfect 10.
And now comes From The Top with Paolo Valenciano as director and Louie Ocampo as musical director. This is Sarah’s first time with Paolo and everybody is excited about what they will come up with to make From The Top not only better than her previous shows but definitely her best to date.
Incidentally, Sarah might give her fans a glimpse into the contents of her upcoming album for Viva Records during her show. The title is The Great Unknown, and that is how it will remain for now. The list of songs is still hush-hush but there are lots of hit materials including new works by Thyro Alfaro and Yumi Lacsamana, Top Suzara, Melvin Morallos, Mark Villar and others, plus some exciting, all-star collaborations. Sarah might sing one of them and this new song will be one of her big surprises for the night.
The Great Unknown comes on the heels of Sarah’s Perfectly Imperfect album from a year ago. The big hits from this one are Kilometro composed by Thyro and Yumi and Perfectly Imperfect, that was written and produced by Adam Hirsfied from Canada. Other cuts included are Minamahal, Until Forever, This Fight, Bulletproof, Dulo, Bangon, Kung Sabagay, In Your Hands and Last Night Of Our Lives featuring Lebanese/Canadian rapper Celeb.
From The Top is presented by Cebuana Lhuillier, Globe, Oppo, Jollibee, Belo Essentials, JAG, Manulife and Xeleb with major sponsors Xtreme Magic Sing, Charmee, Sangobion, Michaela, SMDC, Champion and San San.
