'Recycled' gowns? Not a problem for Regine Velasquez

Regine Velasquez-Alcasid: "Eh, keber ko naman kung magsuot ako ng recycled na gown!" STAR/File

MANILA, Philippines — Fans, take note: some celebrities do not mind if the dress they wear has been "recycled."

Speaking to reporters during the press conference of her show "Regine At The Theater" on Tuesday, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid said wearing a dress more than once for a show or a concert is not an issue for her.

"Eh, keber ko naman kung magsuot ako ng recycled na gown! Ang mahal ng gown, tapos, isang beses mo lang gagamitin?" she told reporters, said quoted by Pang-Masa.

Regine further quipped: "Bili ko na lang ng gatas ng anak ko ‘yung pera."

The topic was in reference to the social media controversy concerning Maine Mendoza and the gown she wore during the "Tamang Panahon" show of "Eat Bulaga" on Saturday.

Netizens questioned the decision to make Maine wear a gown worn by ABS-CBN actress Kim Chiu in a fashion show in 2013, saying this makes the dress "recycled" or previously worn.

It is usually taboo for celebrities to re-do outfit, especially for big events. However, many high-profile celebrities also repeat their clothes; Kate Middleton, Keira Knightley, Victoria Beckham and even Michelle Obama were reported to have "recycled" outfits in the past.

The Pang-Masa report, however, noted that getting gowns is not a problem for Regine since a lot of gay designers offer their services to the Songbird.

"Ganoon ang nangyayari bilang Reyna naman siya ng mga bading, ‘di ba? Pero zero sa amin ang recycled na gowns," Regine's sister Cacai told Pang-Masa.
