MANILA, Philippines - Nikki Normanson (second from right) was crowned as the first-ever Queen of Quezon City on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Armed Forces of the Philippines Theater in Camp Aguinaldo. Nikki also won the Best in Evening Gown, Queen of Selfies and Miss. Kokuryu special awards.

In her 30s, Nikki (full name: Dominique Noelle M. Estanislao) is a recruitment promoter of a call center agency. She has other titles to her name: Eat, Bulaga!’s 2014 Super Sireyna Queen of the Wind (dubbed as Georgina Wilson); 2014 Queen of Northern Luzon; 2013 Queen of Cebu Universe, one of 2012 Manila’s Five Prettiest; and 2010 Bb. Gay Pilipinas. Of Spanish descent, Nikki was Miss Spain in the 2012 Miss International Queen in Pattaya, Thailand, won by Kevin Balot of the Philippines. She did cameo roles in Star Cinema’s Bakit ‘Di Totohanin (2001) and Eat, Bulaga’s Lenten offering Pinagpalang Ama (2015).
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista graced the event. Asia’s Got Talent champion El Gamma Penumbra showcased its world-class talent. Melanie Marquez, fashion designer Frederick Peralta and actor-director Soxy Topacio were judges.
The “alternative beauty pageant” featuring gay, transsexual and transgender beauties was conceptualized in celebration of the approval and implementation of Ordinance No. SP-2357 or “Gender Fair Ordinance.” The ceremonial turn-over by the Quezon City government officials to its LGBT community represented by Topacio, Vice Chair Ging Cristobal and other LGBT leaders was held during the press presentation of the official candidates last Aug. 27 at Annabel’s Restaurant in Tomas Morato Ave., Quezon City. — Reported by Celso de Guzman Caparas
