MANILA, Philippines - Tomorrow, Feb. 22, 6 p.m. at the East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza, acclaimed ensemble the Asian Youth Jazz Orchestra (photo) will serenade mall guests.
As a collaborative platform for young musicians, the group culls together upcoming talents from across Asia. The next generation of jazz artists is guided by some of the genre’s greats including composer, arranger and trombone player Osamu Matsumoto, one of the representatives of Japanese jazz who has participated in prominent big bands and performed with numerous jazz musicians; and Mayuko Katakura (piano), a graduate of the Berklee College of Music and the Juilliard School, as well as a semi-finalist in the 2006 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition.
Catch the Asian Youth Jazz Orchestra as it performs a wonderful repertoire of hit jazz tunes this month. It is made possible in partnership with the Philippine International Jazz Festival and The Japan Foundation Manila.
