MANILA, Philippines — Derek Ramsay defended his ex-girlfriend, Angelica Panganiban, after her much talked-about statements in her recent guesting with John Prats in "Gandang Gabi Vice."

In the February 8 episode of the show, Angelica was asked if she thinks she's the reason why her current boyfriend, John Lloyd Cruz, and his ex-girlfriend, Shaina Magdayao, broke up.

The actress replied, "Feeling ko ... Sabi ko, in fairness 'no, si Shaina, ano kaya nararamdaman? Best friend ko, tapos dyowa niya dati. Ako ang nagwagi."

The "best friend" she was referring to was John Prats, who was also Shaina's ex-boyfriend.

In an interview on Wednesday, Derek refused to react on the issue. Yet he answered when asked if he could recall whether Angelica was the type who would say such comments.

After a brief pause the Kapatid actor said, "I haven't seen the video yet, so I want to see it first. But it is kind of shocking that she'd say those things."

"I know Angel as she speaks ... she's a very emotional person. So kapag may pinagdadaanan, she's very vocal. Sometimes she speaks from the heart, she doesn't think about what she says," Derek added.

He also raised the possibility that Angelica's words were in jest.

"She said things in a joking way, maybe she said things na she was misunderstood. Maybe she was so emotional and she let go of things she didn't mean to say," he said.

Meanwhile, Derek was asked about his birthday wish for Kris Aquino, one of his closest friends. Kris will celebrate her birthday on February 14, Saturday.

One of the first things he wished is "less stress" for the embattled TV host.

"She is targeted by many now, I don't know why. I don't see the reason for that, but she's handling it well."

Many netizens lashed at Kris' reaction to critics of her brother, President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, in relation to the death of the 44 Philippine National Police Special Action Force members.

Derek also wished his good friend better health.

"Because she's been in and out of the hospital, 'di ba? Lagi kasi nagtatrabaho, walang tulog," he said.

Derek hosts a new challenge show in TV5, "Extreme Series, Kaya Mo Ba 'To?" where he takes different "extreme" challenges per episode. It airs Mondays to Fridays, 10:15 p.m. on TV5.
