MANILA, Philippines - A month-long series of Christmas specials is in store for followers of the art and culture show Art 2 Art, with the program presenting choir music, a balagtasan, folk dances and a theatrical excerpt in its December episodes.
Produced by the Manila Broadcasting Company and hosted by Lisa Macuja, Art 2 Art is aired Sundays at 3:30 p.m. on DZRH (666 khz on the AM band), on cable television via RHTV and online through DZRH Live Streaming at www.dzrh.com.ph.
On Dec. 7, the Hiyas ng Pilipinas Youth Choir led by conductor-music director Nicanor Infante sets the tone with a mini-concert of beloved Christmas carols.
On Dec. 14, poet Michael Coroza discusses the attempts to revive the balagtasan among the present generation. He mentors the group of young poets called the Balagstars composed of Dakila Cutab, RR Cagalingan and Loaf Fonte who give a sample of the oral literary tradition.
On Dec. 21, the FEU Dance Company shows its mettle in folk dance, with colorful and lively performances of the Karatong and Pagdiwata.
On Dec. 28, Gantimpala Theater actor Roeder Camañag shares how the company has evolved since it began three decades ago. Today, it is most known for presenting the four classics — Florante at Laura, Ibong Adarna, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
