Marian brings smiles to Yolanda survivors

MANILA, Philippines - Nothing but pure fun and entertainment reeled off last Oct. 15 during the Kapuso Fans’ Day of Marian Rivera held at the event center of Robinsons Place in Tacloban City, Leyte.

It was a humbling experience for the actress meeting a number of Yolanda survivors, who, despite losing almost everything after experiencing Yolanda’s wrath nearly a year ago, are now able to smile, sing, dance and even laugh with her.

A first-timer in the province, Marian was surprised at the fact that her two-hour mall show, that also featured performances from Boobay and dance group J-Crew, was able to gather an estimated crowd of 12,000. Tacloban City Councilor Cristina Gonzalez-Romualdez also graced the said event.

Nakakataba ng puso na ganoon kainit ang pagtanggap nila sa akin,” she added, promising before the audience that one day she will be going back to visit them again.

Tacloban already counts as Marian’s 12th stop after her successful shows in Naga, Baguio, Dagupan, Cebu (Consolacion and city proper), Roxas, Bacolod, Davao, General Santos, Daraga in Albay and Clark in Pampanga.

“Whenever we bring Marian to any city or province in the country, we are always welcomed with the same overwhelming response by her supporters. It’s truly inspiring to see the smiles in their faces, especially in Tacloban where we witnessed the people’s resiliency and sheer strength. Our sincerest gratitude for their warm welcome,” said Oliver Amoroso, GMA Regional TV AVP and head for Regional Strategy and Business Development Division.
