MANILA, Philippines – Have Paulo Avelino and KC Concepcion “friendzoned” each other?

At the press conference for the finale week of the ABS-CBN soap opera “Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon” on Thursday, the ABS-CBN actor said he and the “Ikaw Lamang” actress are best friends.

This echoes KC's statement in a recent interview with morning talk show “Kris TV,” where she said Paulo is one of her best friends.

“Tulad siguro nang sinagot ni KC sa 'Kris TV' when she was interviewed, we're best friends, we're best friends,” Paulo told members of the press.

The 26-year-old actor added: “Nag-uusap naman kami ever since. Hindi naman nawala yun. Wala naman nagbago. And, siguro, ayun, we're friends, we're friends.”

Asked by reporters if being “best friends” means they have already removed the romantic angle in their relationship, Paulo said: “Siguro, ayun, we're friends, we're friends. Hindi mo masasabi kasi magkakaiba tayo ng interpretation ng best friends.”

Paulo also said when asked if he's afraid to commit to relationship: “Committing is different, e. Siguro, now, marami rin kailangan pagtuunan ng pansin. We're both busy.”

“And hindi mo naman malalaman kung sino ang makakatuluyan mo until you give and spend time with the person,” he added.

Right now, Paulo wants to focus on his acting career and his craft. KC, he added, is also busy with work.

“Pareho kaming nagtatrabaho ngayon, pareho kaming nagco-concentrate sa trabaho namin. So yun muna,” he said.

Paulo talked to the press to promote the finale week of “Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon,” which will end on October 10.

“Sa akin, s'yempre sino ba naman ang gustong mawalan ng show o mawalan ng trabaho? But it's about time,” he said of his show's upcoming finale. “Nasa tamang oras naman ang pagtapos ng 'Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon'.”

The actor is set to star in a horror film titled “Mara” with Isabelle Daza and Jasmine Curtis-Smith.

Recently, Paulo appeared on Cosmopolitan Magazine's Bachelor Bash, wherein he walked the runway shirtless and in low-rise jeans.

He's no stranger to sexy photo shoots, as he appeared in several underwear for a local fashion brand.

But Paulo said he may turn his back on sexy pictorials that don't leave much for the imagination for the meantime.

“Akin kasi parang sexiness isn't just about stripping off or going out in your underwear, going out naked.  Sometimes, nasa aura rin na nilalabas mo, na binibigay mo,” he said.

Paulo added: “Sa ngayon, pass muna sa underwear (ads, runway walks). Nagawa ko na, e. For the longest time, I've been doing underwear ads."

"Ngayon, gusto ko muna lumabas doon at mag-explore ng ibang options and mag-concentrate on my acting, sa craft ko.”
