MANILA, Philippines - Bistro RJ in Dusit Thani Hotel is one venue that helps upcoming artists display their talents, including the all-female band The Kumadres (photo).
The band used to call itself the MAHA band when it waxed its initial album, before they went on to tour Asia and such countries in the Middle East as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar.
The Kumadres was founded by Menchie Gonzales, composer and lead vocalist. Babes Gumban, the musical director of the group, is lead and rhythm guitarist, keyboardist and also vocalist. Marilou “Tata” San Jose is also a keyboardist and also does vocals. Josephine “Lovely” de Luna Niebres is the bass player while Jean Talento is the drummer.
The Kumadres will perform at the Bistro RJ on Oct. 4, 8:30 p.m., for the October Blast show, with Menchie’s 13-year-old protégé Pauline Anne Cueto as special guest.
