The Voice loser is a virtual winner

Talent searches seem all the rage these days and the quickest route to a showbiz career. Sarah Geronimo, one of today’s  most brilliant young performers, was the product of a singing search. So was Regine Velasquez. Angeline Quinto tried her luck more than once before bagging the grand prize in Star Power. Erik Santos was a wildcard entry in the finals of the first season of Star in a Million but went on to win and became known as local music’s Prince of Pop. Christian Bautista got booted out on the way to the finals but ended up having a huge career anyway.

And the list goes on. The Voice of the Philippines brought forth a lot of fresh new talent, among them is young singer Morissette Amon. Named after the famous rock singer — she was born around the time that Alanis Morissette was making it big, and her father was a big fan of her music, hence the choice of name.

Since the contest, Morissette has been keeping busy doing mall shows and performing in corporate events. She has also guested on ASAP and is currently working on an album under Star Records, which she is very excited about.

Of course, all this didn’t come overnight. Morissette had to work hard and remains patient. She remembers facing discouragement along the way and had to muster all her strength to fight it, drawing inspiration and encouragement from the people around her. “I was always being compared (to other singers), which gave me a really hard time to stand out,” she says. “But I’ve been true to myself and I never gave up. What inspired me to keep going is my family who’s done incredibly so much for me to reach my dreams, and the fans and friends who have continued to believe in me and who are just supportive beyond words, and of course, how God has continued to surprise me with blessings.”

And even if she didn’t make it on The Voice of the Philippines, she considers just being on the show a blessing, simply because she learned so much. “Every time I was up on The Voice stage was always the best part, because those were moments that people would just listen to my voice and I got to share what I could do. Being a part of the show really helped me boost my confidence, and appreciate and learn more kinds of music genres and singing techniques.”

Morissette who just turned 18, just keeps learning. At this stage of her life and her career, she’s like a sponge that eagerly takes everything in. “I have been learning so much through the years. I have been blessed to have such supportive parents by my side 24/7 and my managers Tito David (Cosico), Tito Carlo (Orosa) and Tito Audie (Gemora of Stages). It’s going to be a challenge to fly with my own wings (now that I’m 18) but I know it’s gonna help me grow and know myself more.”
